"How Do You Do It?"

We've all been asked at one point in our life: "How do you do it?"

Sometimes it is asked with admiration, other times it is full of the bless-you-heart tone. But regardless of whether it is rhetorical or not I am answering the lingering question once and for all.

I do it by waking up and making a promise to myself that I don't have to be perfect.

I do it with my friends at my side.

I do it while listening to each of my favorite songs. Jamming out while drinking wine.

I do it with a head full of messy hair, sitting in the school pick up line hoping that trash doesn't fall out of my vehicle when my child climbs in.

I do it slowly.

But, usually, I do it quickly. It stings less.

I do it on weekends, nights and days. Holidays, too!

When I don't think I can do it any longer, I do it again.

I do it on limited sleep.

I do it with my mother's kind voice in my head guiding me.

Sometimes I even do it when I really don't want to.

I do it because I know if I don't, who will?

I do it for those three tiny humans who count on me.

I do it with a smile on my face because I know my husband is out there doing it, too.

Ultimately, when I am asked "how do you do it?" I can't help but think- I do it the same way you would.

Because at the end of the day, why wouldn't we do it? For all of life's difficulties, hardships and trials there is always, always, always something to be thankful for.
